How Hana Met Her New Friend
It started in the most ordinary way — a quiet café on a Thursday, the kind of afternoon where nothing important is supposed to happen. Hana was sitting by the window, half-reading, half-watching the rain when he walked in, soaked from head to toe, laughing at himself for forgetting an umbrella.
He asked if the seat next to her was free. She nodded. He ordered the same coffee she had — pure coincidence — and they ended up talking for three hours straight. About cities they'd never been to. About songs that always made them cry. About the strange feeling of meeting someone and instantly knowing they'd matter.
By the time the rain stopped, he had her number. By the time the weekend arrived, she was already counting down the hours to see him again.
The Day She Met His Parents
A few weeks later, he invited Hana to a small Sunday lunch at his parents' house. She spent the morning trying on outfits, redoing her hair, rehearsing the perfect "hello" — and then she just gave up and wore the simple dress he liked most.
His mother opened the door with the warmest smile she'd seen in years. "So you're the one he won't stop talking about," she said, hugging her like they'd known each other forever. His father shook her hand with a soft, knowing nod, the kind that said welcome home without using the word.
Lunch was loud and full of laughter. Old family stories, embarrassing childhood photos, his mother slipping her seconds of dessert "because you're too thin, darling." When she finally caught his eye across the table, she realized she wasn't nervous anymore. She was happy. Really, genuinely, quietly happy.
